No BUIs Recorded at Lake Lanier on Fourth of July

Holiday incidents statewide at lakes were down from 2012.

The stormy weather in the Lake Lanier and Gwinnett areas on the Fourth of July may have had a silver lining.

According to a blog post on lakelanier.com, there were no arrests for Boating Under the Influence (BUI) on Lake Lanier during the recent holiday. Of course, activity of all kinds at the lake was down because of the heavy rain and storm activity.

The post, quoting Georgia Department of Natural Resources statistics, said that there were two BUI arrests statewide on Thursday, and none on Lake Lanier.  There were seven such arrests statewide in 2012.

Authorities have been keeping a stronger watch in general on Lanier and other Georgia waterways in 2013. There is a new legal limit for BUI -- 0.08, the same as for motorists.
