Lake Lanier Drowning Victim Identified

The Atlanta man drowned Sunday in a Forsyth County area of the lake.

The man who drowned Sunday (June 23) at Lake Lanier has been identified as being from Atlanta, according to Forsyth County authorities.

Lindy James Murdock of Bass Street in Atlanta, 33, was the victim Sunday afternoon, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Monday.

According to earlier media reports,  the man was on a float, but came off the float and went down. The incident happened in the Athens Park Road area of Forsyth County.

The death appears to be accidental. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section is still investigating the drowning.

Earlier reports said the victim was from Gwinnett County.
