Man Blames Financial Hardship for Tag Theft

Flowery Branch man initially claimed he did not know how the tag got on his vehicle.

A Flowery Branch man had a difficult time trying to explain to a Gwinnett County Police officer how a tag registered to a gray Toyota Avalon ended up on his maroon Dodge Dakota pickup. A GCPD officer was patrolling near the Mall of Georgia on April 5 when the license plate reader in the patrol car registered a stolen license plate alert. The officer followed the pickup truck on which the tag was displayed onto I-85 northbound. "The driver made multiple lane changes while on I-85," the officer wrote in the arrest report. "The driver continually attempted to position another motorist between my vehicle and his." The vehicle, driven by Brain Reeves, 34, of Flowery Branch, exited at Hamilton Mill Road and turned left. Cashier 'Tricked' Into Giving Customer $400

Incident occurred at the Golden Corral on Buford Drive.

A Golden Corral manager says a cashier in training was tricked into handing over $400 to a male customer during an April 5 incident at the Buford Drive restaurant. The video surevillance of the incident shows black male -- approximately 6-foot-2 weighing 185 pounds and wearing a striped sweater, dark pants and a black Yankees baseball cap -- order and pay for his food. The male then handed the cashier an unknown amount of money. The cashier is seen on video making change for the bill she was handed. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, the male then repeatedly placed "unknown amounts of money on the counter as well as handing [the cashier] more bills." Robber Snatches Elderly Woman's Purse at Buford Walmart

The 71-year-old Dacula woman was loading groceries into her car when the incident occurred.

Gwinnett County Police are looking for individual who jumped out of a vehicle and snatched an elderly woman's purse in the parking lot of the Buford Drive Walmart on March 25. The 71-year-old Dacula woman said a male took her purse after she left it in the shopping cart while loading groceries into her vehicle. A witness told police a male jumped out of a blue van, snatched the purse and then got back into the van. The witness was able to provide police with a tag number for the suspect's vehicle. Video surveillance showed the blue minivan, believed to be a Dodge Caravan, circling the same set of parking rows several times. Man With Club Foot, Woman With Teeth 'Similar to a Meth User' Sought in Buford Shoplifting Incident

The incident was captured on video surveillance.

The Gwinnett County Police Department knows what two suspected shoplifters look like and now just has to find them. Officers were dispatched to a theft in progress call at the South Garnett Street Dollar General on Feb. 23. The manager attempted to stop a female suspect, but the suspect fought back and escaped before police arrived. The investigating officer noticed several items, including a yellow neon jacket, on the ground outside the Dollar General. The store manager advised the jacket belonged to the female suspect and had come off during his struggle with her. Inside the jacket, the officer located a bottle of methadone. According to the report, it is not known if the name on the bottle is that of the female suspect. Video …

Nearly $3,000 Missing From Safe at Buford Goodwill Store

A manager discovered the theft on Jan. 31.

Gwinnett County Police are attempting to determine who is responsible for the theft of nearly $3,000 in cash from the Hamilton Mill Goodwill store. One of the store managers discovered the theft after arriving for work on Jan. 31. According to the police report, the manager went to his office to begin procedures for opening the store. Upon checking the safe, he discovered $2,938 was missing. Video surveillance showed an employee of the store in the manager’s office when a cashier came in with a register till of money. The employee is seen counting the money and placing it in the safe. Muddy, Wet Man Caught at Scene of Vandalized Abandoned Homes

Drywall had been ripped out and insulation removed in an apparent attempt to gain access to copper wiring.

A Gwinnett County man is facing multiple charges after being caught at the scene of what appeared to be an attempted metal theft on West Rock Quarry Road in Buford. On the morning of Jan. 17, an officer was dispatched to an abandoned residence in the 2500 block of West Rock Quarry Road in response to a report of a suspicious vehicle. The officer found William Anderson, 42, of Lawrenceville, at the scene next to a Chevrolet Silverado that was stuck in the mud. When asked what he was doing, Anderson said he and a friend were “out looking for deer.” Anderson had a rifle in his truck, but no ammunition. Man Gets Truck Towed to Dealership, Has Motorcycle Stolen

The motorcycle had been tied to the back of the truck with bungie cords.

A Connecticut man's transportation woes unfortunately took a turn for the worse after his truck broke down on the interstate and was towed to a Buford dealership. On Jan. 6 at approximately 4:30 a.m., the man had his truck towed to Mall of Georgia Ford on Nelson Brogdon Boulevard for repairs. According to the man, his motorcycle was tied to the vehicle with bungie cords and was left in the lot for the remainder of the night. When he returned to the dealership later that day, the motorcycle was missing.  The man said the wrecker driver asked him if he wanted to leave the motorcycle on the vehicle or secure it somewhere else so that it would not be stolen.  "The victim said it was suspicious to him that the wrecker driver asked that," the …

Video surveillance at the Buford Drive Walmart captured the moment when a car was stolen as the owner shopped inside the store on Jan. 7. The vehicle, a gray 1993 Honda Accord, had been left parked outside the automotive department awaiting service. According to the police report, the woman had left her keys inside the vehicle at the request of automotive department employees. “As mechanics worked on the car that was already in the bay, they heard and saw the victim’s car leaving very quickly out of line and toward the front of the store,” the report stated. Over $400 Worth of Merchandise Stolen After Bags Left Unattended

Man said he left the items at a table in the Mall of Georgia food court for just a few moments.

A day of shopping ended badly for a Gwinnett County man after he left two bags unattended in the Mall of Georgia food court on Dec. 23. The man said he left the bags at a table while he picked up his food order. According to the police report, the man was only away from his table for approximately two minutes. When he returned, the bags were missing. A witness seated nearby told the man two females walked up to the table, picked up the bags and left. By the time police arrived, the witness was gone and the officer was unable to obtain a suspect description. The man said the bags contained seven jackets valued at $350 and perfume valued at $80.  The investigating officer advised the man to alert the stores in case the thieves attempted to …
