Unless you're a member (or have some connections), chances are you're not going to be able to play at a private club like TPC Sugarloaf, but there are plenty of daily-fee options in the Gwinnett County. Buford, North Gwinnett and Lanier to Compete in GHSA Baseball Playoffs

The local schools are among the 14 county teams playing in the Georgia High School Association baseball tournament.

There are two big questions surrounding the Georgia High School Association baseball playoffs for Gwinnett County fans. 1. Can Parkview High win the state championship for the third straight year? 2. Will the Panthers have to meet neighboring rival Brookwood again (like last year) to pull it off? The state playoffs begin Friday, May 3, with first-round double-headers in six classifications. Gwinnett County will be well-represented by 15 teams in five of those divisions Parkview will host Etowah in a double-header beginning at 5 p.m. in the Class AAAAAA tournament; Brookwood opens at Milton, also at 5. Buford High School Gymnastics Program Featured on GPB Sports

Amanda Allen, coach of the Buford High School gymnastics team, described the first year of competition as a "great" one. In three of their four competitions this year, the Lady Wolves have placed first. The team, consisting of eight athletes, competes in floor, beam, bars and vault. Read more on GPB Sports. Gwinnett Braves to Host 'Boston Strong' Night

Sports stars formerly from Boston, including Matt Ryan, Jason Varitek, Rodney Harrison and Dee Brown will be at Coolray Field on May 7. Part of ticket sales from the night will go to OneFundBoston.org.

The Gwinnett Braves will show their support for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing with a special night to raise funds for the families affected. On May 7, the G-Braves will play the Boston Red Sox's minor league team the Pawtucket Red Sox. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. The first pitches will be thrown out by athletes who played in Boston at one time or another. Former Buford Football Player to Be Inducted Into Gwinnett Sports Hall of Fame

Buford High School football player Darius Walker among six to be inducted in 2013.

The six inductees into the 2013 Gwinnett Sports Hall of Fame include former Buford High School football player Darius Walker, who in 2003 scored 46 touchdowns, breaking Herschel Walker’s Georgia single-season record of 42. Other inductees this year include: During his high school career, Walker, who is now a sports analyst for Fox, rushed for 5,676 rushing yards and 91 touchdowns. Walker played for Notre Dame and, during his first season for the Irish, set the freshman rushing record, gaining 786 yards on 185 carries (4.2 average), breaking a 30-year-old school record. Walker played in the NFL from 2007-2009. The six honorees will be inducted in the Gwinnett Sports Hall of Fame in a ceremony sponsored by the Gwinnett County Public Schools …

North Gwinnett and Lanier Baseball Teams to Compete in Two-Day Event at Coolray

Ten high school teams will compete on March 8-9, 2013.

Baseball will begin for 2013 this week at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, as 10 high school teams from Gwinnett and Forsyth counties will compete in a two-day, five-game event. On March 8-9, teams from South Gwinnett, Mountain View, Lanier, North Gwinnett, Providence Christian, Duluth, Collins Hill, Brookwood, North Forsyth and Peachtree Ridge will take to the diamond in the event's debut. “We’ve had singular events before, showcasing some top high school baseball teams in the area,” Gwinnett Braves General Manager North Johnson said in a news release.  “Through the efforts of the community and our staff, we have expanded to welcome the largest high school showcase in the history of Coolray Field. Smack Talk Begins About Local Women's Football Team

The Atlanta Steam, which debuts in Gwinnett in April, has been predicted to go winless in 2013.

With just two months to go before the Atlanta Steam begins play, some are predicting the Gwinnett women's Legends Football League team will have a less than stellar opening season. According to an article in lfl360.com, linebacker Adrian Purnell of the Jacksonville Breeze talked some smack on Commissioner’s Corner, “…everyone thinks we are looking forward to the Atlanta game this year because everyone is talking a big game about them. (They) are the least of my worries right now.” Literally days later, “The List” guaranteed Atlanta to go 0-4. Atlanta wide receiver Krista Cross’ response was “{forget} the world. Top Golfers Heading to Gwinnett for 2013 Tournament

Hall of Famers Larry Nelson, Hale Irwin and Tom Kite as well as recent winners such as John Cook have committed to play in the PGA Champions Tour event at TPC Sugarloaf in Gwinnett in April.

Officials of the Greater Gwinnett Championship announced Jan. 29 that 27 of the top 30 players from the Champions Tour 2012 money list have committed for the event, which marks the return of pro golf to Gwinnett after an absence of several years. The 54-hole tourney in Duluth will be on April 19-21. Various events will be held at Sugarloaf during the week leading up to the event. "Like all my fellow Champions Tour professionals, I am very much looking forward to returning to the Atlanta area for the Greater Gwinnett Championship,” Cook, who joined the Champions Tour in 2007, said in a news release. “Most of us played at TPC Sugarloaf at some stage during our PGA TOUR days and the fans were always very supportive. This year's Super Bowl has the ultimate family angle: To win the NFL title, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and Ravens coach John Harbaugh have to beat their brother. And that's a test for their parents. However, it's not the first time that family loyalties have been tested. The teams also met on Thanksgiving Day 2011, in the regular season. John's Ravens won.
