Stay Fit, Safe This Summer

Mall of Georgia in Buford presenting Kidgits Club family summer safety seminar Saturday, May 18.

Mall of Georgia and Gwinnett Safe Kids are teaming up to host a special event on Saturday, May 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. for families to learn about the importance of summer safety. The fun-filled event includes hands-on demonstrations and safety lectures from community heroes on how to prepare for emergency situations. Officials from the Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services Department, the Gwinnett Citizen Fire Academy and the Gwinnett County Police Department will be onsite to answer questions and offer safety tips. So grab the entire family and get smart about safety!   Admission is free for current Simon Kidgits Club members and $5 for non-members. Mall of Georgia Summer Movies Under the Stars Series Starts Soon

Series kicks off Saturday, May 25, with 'Brave' on a 55-foot screen at Village Amphitheatre.

Summer is right around the corner, which means FREE family entertainment is set to begin at Mall of Georgia! Celebrate the start of the season with Mall of Georgia’s Movies Under The Stars series. Kicking off the summer series on Saturday, May 25, on the impressive 55-foot screen will be the family favorite, Oscar-nominated Brave. Before settling down at dusk to enjoy the feature film, families are invited to head to the Village Amphitheatre at 5 p.m. for fun activities and concessions such as Sweet Monkey Frozen Yogurt, Skip’s Hawaiian Shaved Ice, popcorn and cotton candy. Four vehicles broken into on Jan. 12.

Gwinnett County Police are investigating several car break-ins that occurred on Jan. 12 at the Mall of Georgia. In one of the incidents, a Louisiana woman said she parked her car at the mall at approximately 5:20 p.m. When she returned just over an hour later, she discovered her MacBook Pro, iPod Touch, Nikon camera, iPad, jewelry and Nokia cell phone were missing. The woman said one of the back doors to the car was unlocked when she got to the vehicle. The total value of the stolen items was estimated to be $3,000. In another incident, a Toccoa man said his Droid phone, valued at $600, and his Barrett 9 mm handgun, valued at $700, were taken out of his vehicle. Some Macy's Stores Closing, Mall of Georgia Location to Remain Open

Macy's will close five stores.

Several Macy's stores will be closing as part of what the company describes as normal course adjustments to its portfolio. The Buford, Ga. location at the Mall of Georgia will not be affected. “We remain committed to operating a successful and growing stores business as part of our company’s Omnichannel strategy for serving customers wherever, whenever and however they prefer to shop,” said Karen M. Hoguet, chief financial officer of Macy’s, Inc. in a released statement. “This leads us to open new stores where we see the opportunity to fill gaps in important markets, as well as to make the tough decision to selectively close underperforming stores that no longer meet our performance requirements or where leases are not being renewed.” The …
