Gwinnett Police believe a man stabbed his girlfriend, then shot himself in the head after an apparent argument early Sunday in unincorporated Snellville. The woman, who was stabbed in the back, survived the attack, but the man died, according to a media alert emailed by Gwinnett Police Cpl. Michele Pihera. “The death of the male is being investigated as a suicide. The female is not a suspect in his death,” Pihera reported. Check back with Patch for updates. Video surveillance at the Buford Drive Walmart captured the moment when a car was stolen as the owner shopped inside the store on Jan. 7. The vehicle, a gray 1993 Honda Accord, had been left parked outside the automotive department awaiting service. According to the police report, the woman had left her keys inside the vehicle at the request of automotive department employees. “As mechanics worked on the car that was already in the bay, they heard and saw the victim’s car leaving very quickly out of line and toward the front of the store,” the report stated. A Buford man appeared nervous and possibly ready to make some significant life changes when stopped for several minor traffic violations on Dec. 6. Derek E. Howard, 20, was driving a black Chevrolet Impala northbound on I-85 near the Mall of Georgia exit in Buford when a Gwinnet County Police officer noticed Howard fail to signal a lane change. According to the police report, Howard also failed to maintain his lane of travel and had an inoperative tail light. The officer conducted a traffic stop as Howard’s vehicle approached the Hamilton Mill exit. Howard reportedly was very nervous when speaking with the officer. A Sugar Hill man found himself in need of a new paint job for his vehicle after a vandal or vandals spray-painted words and an obscene image on the side of his Ford Expedition. The man told police he parked his vehicle outside his Level Creek Road apartment at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 12. When he returned to his vehicle the following morning, he discovered that someone had spray-painted the letter “I,” a heart symbol and male genitalia on the passenger side of his vehicle. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, the man has called 911 several times regarding the activities of one of his neighbors. Two South Carolina men are facing drug trafficking charges after an Aug. 18 traffic stop on I-85 northbound near Hamilton Mill resulted in the discovery of approximately 35 grams of suspected cocaine. A Gwinnett County Police officer stopped a gray Chevrolet Impala driven by Larry King Jr., 25, of Charleston, S.C., after noticing the vehicle was following an SUV at a close distance. After obtaining identification from King and his passenger, Omar Washington, 34, also of Charleston, the officer asked King to exit the vehicle. The officer informed King that he intended to issue a warning citation for following too closely.
