Gwinnett Officials Hold SWAT Standoff Press Conference

Gwinnett County Police held a press conference about Wednesday's SWAT standoff in Suwanee where four Gwinnett Firefighters were held hostage.

GCPD: Suspect Believed to Be Responsible for 21 Car Break-ins

Anyone recognizing this suspect or his vehicle is asked to call GCPD detectives at 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 404-557-TIPS (8477).

Gwinnett County Police believe one man may be responsible for a string of car break-ins that began in October 2012 and have continued into 2013. Detectives have connected a total of 21 cases to the same suspect, according to GCPD public information officer Cpl. Jake Smith. Typically the suspect targets vehicles in parks and churches, Smith added. The suspect is described as a black male of average height and build who appears to be in his 30s or 40s (see photo). He has been seen using an older model white pickup truck and a four-door passenger car of unknown color. Arrestee to Cop: ‘I’m Just Tired of This’

Police find marijuana and possible indicators of drug dealing in man’s vehicle.

A Buford man appeared nervous and possibly ready to make some significant life changes when stopped for several minor traffic violations on Dec. 6. Derek E. Howard, 20, was driving a black Chevrolet Impala northbound on I-85 near the Mall of Georgia exit in Buford when a Gwinnet County Police officer noticed Howard fail to signal a lane change. According to the police report, Howard also failed to maintain his lane of travel and had an inoperative tail light. The officer conducted a traffic stop as Howard’s vehicle approached the Hamilton Mill exit. Howard reportedly was very nervous when speaking with the officer. The officer noted Howard’s hands were visibly shaking and a slight odor of burnt marijuana was emanating from the vehicle. The…

Unsolved Gwinnett Murder to Be Featured on 'America's Most Wanted'

The Lifetime channel show will feature the unsolved 2008 murder of Kay Wenal on Friday evening.

Who killed Eva "Kay" Wenal? Gwinnett County Police Detectives have been trying to figure that out since she was murdered in 2008. And now they hope to get leads from a national television show. "America's Most Wanted" will feature this cold case on their show Friday, Aug. 24 at 9 p.m. on Lifetime. It will air during an episode called “The Bold, The Bad and The Brazen.” Wenal was murdered at her home on Sugar Lake Court, in unincorporated Lawrenceville on May 1, 2008. Her husband Harold “Hal” Wenal found his wife's body. Mr. Wenal was ruled out as a suspect before he died of natural causes in 2010. Earlier this year, Gwinnett Detectives revealed a note cut out of magazine letters claiming responsibility for the woman's murder. The suspect …

Police Searching for Cell Phone Store Robbers

Suspects are believed to be responsible for seven cell phone store robberies.

Gwinnett County Police detectives are asking for the public's help in locating the perpetrators of a series of cell phone store robberies. Since May 26, 2012, seven Gwinnett cell phone stores have been robbed -- six in unincorporated Norcross and one in unincorporated Lilburn. The most recent robbery occurred on July 24. In each case, the robberies were committed by one or two armed suspects. Police have released surveillance images of one of the suspects, who police describe as a 5-foot-8 light-skinned black male weighing approximately 150 pounds. "The suspect usually produces a handgun from his waistline and confronts employees," said GCPD public information officer Cpl. Jake Smith in a released statement.  "He usually orders the …
