Buford Wolves Take on Berkmar in Preseason Game

The games don't count, but preseason scrimmages will give us a taste of what to expect in 2013.

High school football in Georgia is not quite ready for prime time, but dress rehearsals are scheduled in and around the area this week.

Scrimmage football games, practice encounters in preparation of the official start of the season later this month, give coaches and players a chance to gauge their progress, and communities a test drive of the Friday night experience.

According a preseason schedule compiled by the Georgia High School Football Daily, here are five scrimmages games coming up involving teams Buford and surrounding communities:

  • Buford at Berkmar, Friday, Aug. 16: The Gwinnett small-school heavyweight Wolves test themselves against a Class AAAAAA team in Berkmar.
  • Lambert at Lanier, Friday, Aug. 16: Lanier is hoping to build on a solid 2012.
  • Stephenson at North Gwinnett, Friday, Aug. 16: Two big-school heavyweights give us one of the best preseason matchups in the state.
  • Collins Hill at Archer, Friday, Aug. 16: Both of these programs look to challenge for playoffs berths in their respective regions.
  • Lovejoy at Peachtree Ridge, Friday, Aug. 16: Peachtree Ridge gets a great test against last year's big-school runner-up.
