Woman Steals During Buford Fundraiser, As a Family Continues Cancer Fight

Connor McMahon, 12, is fighting for his life for the second time with cancer. And, last week, while others were helping raise money for him in Buford, a woman lurked in and committed theft.

Gwinnett County police are looking for a woman who pulled off a theft during a fundraiser recently held in Buford.

The fundraiser was held at the Buford Drive Massage Envy, a business owned by Don McMahon, whose son Connor is battling cancer for the second time in his 12 years, according to 11Alive.

While the fundraiser was going on McMahon told 11Alive that a woman came in, broke into an employee locker, and stole money and $300 sunglasses, among other things.

Police are looking for the suspect.

The following morning, Connor was back at Children's Hospital of Atlanta for another round of chemotherapy. He was first diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia when he was 3.

And, after three years of treatments Connor was considered cured, but then this year came. In that time, the family also began Connor's Hope to help other children with cancer.

Chances are Connor will miss much of the summer while being treated, but his father is finding solace in watching his son's brave fight.

In a May 31 CaringBridge post, McMahon said this:

"I want to see next summer or the summer after that. But being 12 and missing days at the lake or on the beach is difficult. This journey will be long for sure. At the end of the day I just want my son to be healthy."

As for the Buford fundraiser last week, about $2,000 was raised, and all of it will go to Connor's Hope.
