What Constitutes a Legitimate Government?

Unabated Path to Happiness!

"The freedom and happiness of man...[are] the sole objects of all legitimate
government." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to Thaddeus Kosciusko, 1810

With the current behaviors of government, would you call them illegitimate or government not abiding by Constitutional law? Excessive taxation (do you feel represented?), manipulation of the press, daily destruction of your rights bestowed by the Creator and voluminous unconstitutional laws would make you think so. All the aforementioned actions deter or remove the ability for man’s attainment of happiness.

The duty we are charged with is to find, promote and elect those that will remove the obstacles in the path to your happiness. That government, when we find them, will truly represent your interest, will not be illegitimate and will use the wisdom of our Founding Fathers who created the Constitution for guidance and your freedom.

"There are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpation." --James Madison, drafted the Constitution and the Bill of Rights

I think the Federal Government has gotten vastly bigger than it was ever intended to be; couple that with a lazy electorate, and look what we get. I want measures taken to make our system favorable to multiple parties, and I want an audit done from top to bottom of our Federal Government with a report issued that the common citizen can read and understand.

Mr. Ramey, for years, I got your Founding Father's Quotes in my e-mail. I'm glad to see you incorporate those into a blog.
