Buford, 9 other Gwinnett Teams Win in First Round of Football Playoffs

Wolves wins in the first round for the 14th straight season

Gwinnett County football teams had a great start to the 2014Georgia High School Association playoffs.

That number included seven of eight teams in Class 6A, the state's largest classification, where Gwinnett teams have won the last three state championships.

Top-ranked North Gwinnett beat Milton 34-10 and defending champ Norcross shut out Etowah 28-0 to lead the local big schools.

Other big-school winners: Archer beat North Forsyth 34-7, Brookwood beat Lambert 35-16, Peachtree Ridge smothered Lassiter 59-20, Collins Hill routed Walton 41-7, and Dacula got by West Forsyth 36-31. The only Gwinnett 6A school to lose was South Gwinnett, which fell 41-23 at Alpharetta.

Friday's results creates three all-Gwinnett matchups in the second round in 6A: North is at Archer, Brookwood is at Norcross and Peachtree Ridge is at Dacula. Collins Hill will play at Alpharetta.

--Playing in only its second full varsity season, Lanier won its first playoff game, a 26-7 win over Carver-Atlanta in Class 5A.

--Mighty Buford rolled into the 3A playoffs with a 58-0 win over Sonoraville. It was the Wolves' 14th straight first-round playoff victory.

--In 2A, Greater Atlanta Christian beat Rabun County 34-0, and Wesleyan lost at Washington-Wilkes 46-14.
