Blast From the Past: Buford High 1955 Senior Class Trip

The Museum of Buford now in the Buford Community Center. Open Thurs-Sat, 11 a.m.- 5 p.m., and during public Community Center theater events. Check BCC for schedules.

I am constantly coming across unique and wonderful finds in the Museum files. This week, a red and gold scrapbook caught my eye.  "The 1955 Buford High Senior Class Trip," filled with photos, postcards and a surprising souvenir.

Planned months in advance, financed with fundraisers and donations, 29 Buford High School Seniors and eight chaperones took off on a week-long tour of the East coast in May of 1955. Stops along the way included Richmond, Virginia; Annapolis, MD; two days in Washington, DC, and another two days in New York City. Southern Railway arranged the itinerary, and even sent along a representative for the trip.

Although I haven't included every photo and pamphlet in my post, I am staying faithful to the order of the contents and captions. A mimeographed itinerary from the railway was pasted to the first page and provides a perfect outline of the trip.

This week's post is too heavily laden with photos to be enjoyed with ease through the usual Patch post this week, but I'm including a few "teaser" photos from the post here on The Patch, and the entire post can be seen here :
