MoveOn.Org Urges Woodall, Congress to Enact 'Common Sense' Gun Law Reform

Woodall urged to "stand up against gun violence and know that the extreme NRA doesn't speak for many gun owners."

A group of concerned citizens stood with signs outside the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville Thursday to call for support of reasonable gun safety laws.

The rally took place a little more than two months after the Dec. 14, 2012, shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Twenty-six people, mostly young children, lost their lives when a gunman opened fire in the school.

MoveOn.org sponsored the event urging U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA-07) -- whose office is housed in GJAC -- to take action on gun safety.

“We ask Representative Woodall to listen to his constituents and stand up for common sense reforms that will reduce gun violence,” said Kathleen Allen in a release. Allen is a mother in Norcross, a gun owner and MoveOn.org member.  “Congress must not wait for the next Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, Tucson or Columbine before taking action. Representative Woodall needs to return to Washington next week and vote to protect our children and our community. We urge Representative Woodall to stand up against gun violence and know that the extreme NRA doesn't speak for many gun owners.”

Those who came out were not asking for a total ban on all guns, but were looking to remove assault weapons and high-capacity magazines from general public use as well as improving background checks.
