Lake Lanier's First State Park to be Dedicated Monday

Gov. Nathan Deal to speak at dedication for Don Carter State Park.

Gov. Nathan Deal and other dignitaries will speak at the public dedication ceremony for the new Don Carter State Park on Lake Lanier at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16.Β  Attendees are invited to enjoy the park’s amenities following the official ceremony.

The park is the first state park on Lake Lanier. It is located at 5000 N. Browning Bridge Road, off Clarks Bridge Road, in Hall County.

The normal $5 parking fee will be waived Monday.

The park is named in honor of real estate executive Don Carter, 81, who served on the Georgia Department of Natural Resources board for 29 years and worked to establish the park. Also scheduled to speak at the dedication is his son Doug Carter.

Park amenities include a sand swimming beach with bathhouse, boat ramps, a hiking and biking trail, two-bedroom cabins for overnight stays, an RV campground, and a primitive camping area for tents and hammocks.

Park hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.Β 

The park informally opened July 15.
