Buford Commission to Seek Exemption from Georgia Gun-Carry Law

Chairman says, a "public meeting's not the time or place for guns."

The Buford City Commission Chairman said there’s no room for guns at City Hall.

After the Commission approved a course of action in response to the recently signed Georgia Safe Carry Protection Act at its Monday night meeting, Commissioner Phillip Beard, a hunter and gun supporter, told the Gwinnett Daily Post  that a “public meeting’s not the time or place for guns.”

The new gun-carry law, which goes into effect this summer, would allow gun owners more lenience in the places they can carry a weapon, including government buildings which do not have security screening.

The Commission decided Monday to seek a city exemption to the law or consider a security measure, such as a metal detector.
