A 27-year-old Buford woman was yanked out of her vehicle as she struggled to keep a robber from stealing her purse in the parking lot of the Hamilton Mill Road Kroger.
The woman told police she was getting into her friend’s vehicle just after 10 p.m. on Nov. 21 when a car stopped nearby. A male exited the rear passenger seat of the car and approached the woman, repeatedly saying, “Hey you!”
The woman reportedly told the man she did not know him and was halfway in her friend’s vehicle when the man grabbed her purse and began pulling on it. The woman struggled to hold on to the purse and was dragged out of the vehicle to the ground. The woman said she and the male struggled for a brief time and she was pulled near the suspect’s vehicle before he was able to get the purse away from her. The male then got into the rear seat of the vehicle and the car sped away.
The woman described the suspect as a black male, approximately 21 years of age, 5-foot-9 and weighing roughly 160 pounds. She said the suspect had short, black hair and no distinguishable scars or marks. She described the suspect’s vehicle as a silver, four-door sedan, possibly a Nissan and added there appeared to be two other people in the vehicle -- a driver and a front seat passenger.
A witness to the incident was unable to provide any further details about the suspect or the vehicle. A second witness did not see the actual robbery, but did see the silver vehicle speeding away from the scene. She was unable to provide a make, model or tag number. A third witness also saw the vehicle speeding away. He described the vehicle as a silver, late-model Toyota, Nissan or Mazda.
During the struggle for the woman’s purse, the suspect lost his hat and a watch, both of which were collected by police and placed into evidence. Police also reviewed surveillance video of the incident captured by cameras in the Kroger parking lot.
The woman's purse contained her wallet, cell phone, Social Security card, driver's license and $120 in cash.
The case is listed as active.
