Suspect in Buford Home Invasion Robbery Identified
Suspect still at large; warrants issued for his arrest.
Gwinnett Police Robbery Unit detectives have identified the suspect in a Buford home invasion robbery as Derrick Jamal Rankins, 22.
Detectives obtained warrants for two counts of armed robbery and one count of false imprisonment, according to an updated news release issued by Gwinnett Police. He is not yet in custody. Β
A 10-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy were at home alone at the time of the robbery while their parents were at work. The boys were not injured.

The suspect fled the scene in a white Buick Century. After receiving a report of the incident Thursday (Sept 12) afternoon, Gwinnett Police spotted the car on I-85 South near Beaver Ruin Road and pursued it until the driver crashed the car in Atlanta and fled on foot.
Most of the items taken in the robbery were found in the car.
