Robber Snatches Elderly Woman's Purse at Buford Walmart

The 71-year-old Dacula woman was loading groceries into her car when the incident occurred.

Gwinnett County Police are looking for individual who jumped out of a vehicle and snatched an elderly woman's purse in the parking lot of the Buford Drive Walmart on March 25.

The 71-year-old Dacula woman said a male took her purse after she left it in the shopping cart while loading groceries into her vehicle. A witness told police a male jumped out of a blue van, snatched the purse and then got back into the van. The witness was able to provide police with a tag number for the suspect's vehicle.

Video surveillance showed the blue minivan, believed to be a Dodge Caravan, circling the same set of parking rows several times. At 12:39 p.m., the elderly woman exited the store and stopped her cart next to her vehicle, which was parked in one of the handicap parking spaces near the front of the store.

"The van stops and the passenger exits," the officer wrote in the report. "It appeared to be a male in a dark or gray coat, dark pants and white shoes. The suspect sneaks up to the victim, snatches the purse and retreats to the van. The van exits the driveway closest to interstate 985."

The case is listed as active.
