Police Investigating Another Burglary Involving Stolen Cigarettes

Several similar incidents have occurred over the past few months.

Nearly three dozen cartons of cigarettes were stolen during a Jan. 27 burglary at a Hamilton Mill Road convenience store.

Gwinnett County Police responded to a burglary alarm at the Chevron located at the corner of Hamilton Mill Road and Puckett’s Mill Road and, upon arrival, found the front glass door of the business had been smashed. A hammer was found on the floor behind the cash register and cigarette cartons were scattered nearby, the report stated.

Video surveillance showed a white male enter the store at 3:58 a.m. The suspect was wearing a white or khaki-colored hooded jacket, blue jeans, a black mask, white gloves and black shoes.

“The suspect walked over to the cigarettes and started putting them in a cardboard box,” the officer noted in the report. “At one point, half of the suspect’s face is exposed because his mask is not pulled all the way up. Once the suspect loaded the box full of cigarettes up, he jumped the counter and left the business.”

On the way out of the business, the suspect knocked over a glass case breaking both the case and $1,800 worth of glass pipes, according to the report.

The burglar escaped with 35 cartons of cigarettes with an estimated value of $1,600.

The case is listed as active.

The incident is one of several recent Buford area burglaries involving the theft of cigarettes. In October, . Also in October, a during a burglary of the Country Store on Main Street in downtown Buford.

In December, two Buford smoke shops were burglarized. Mini cigars were stolen at one business, nothing was reported missing from the second smoke shop.
