Man Accused of Crashing Into Buford Woman's Vehicle After Fleeing Scene of Another Accident

Suspect was charged with DUI after reportedly crashing into two vehicles on Braselton Highway near Hamilton Creek Parkway.

A Dacula man is facing several charges in connection with two accidents that occurred on March 11 near the intersection of Braselton Highway and Hamilton Creek Parkway.

Just after 5 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the Wells Fargo bank parking lot to meet with the victim of a hit and run. According to the woman, the driver of a silver Honda Civic, later identified asΒ Efrain Hernandez, 49, of Dacula, rear-ended her vehicle as she slowed for a traffic light. The woman said she got out of her car to inspect the damage and Hernandez began yelling, "No! No! There's no damage to your truck."

The woman informed Hernandez she intended to call police and told him to follow her into the Wells Fargo parking lot. Hernandez reportedly fled the scene and, according to the woman, hit another vehicle before pulling into the Burger King parking lot.

The officer found Hernandez in the Burger King parking lot standing next to his Civic. A white Saturn with damage to the front of the vehicle was parked nearby.

Upon approaching Hernandez, the officer immediately noticed an odor of alcoholic beverage.

"He told me that a lady ran into him and that he couldn't find his shoes," the officer wrote in the report. "His speech was very slow and slurred. He seemed to be having trouble collecting his thoughts as though he was confused."

The officer instructed Hernandez to sit in his vehicle while he spoke with the driver of the white Saturn. The driver, a Buford woman, said she was traveling in the outside lane of Braselton Highway when Hernandez's Civic crossed over into her lane, striking her vehicle.Β
