Gwinnett Police Apprehend High Speed Chase Suspect

Jonathan Leonard Martin reportedly also was wanted out of Barrow County for a probation violation.

A Winder man wanted by multiple agencies is now in custody.

On May 15, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit located and arrested Jonathan Leonard Martin who was wanted out of Barrow and Gwinnett County.

According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office, Martin,Β of 410 Foxdale Road in Winder,Β was wanted out of Barrow County for a probation violation.

In addition to the Barrow warrant, Martin had 15 outstanding warrants against him stemming from a May 4 incident involving the Georgia State Patrol. Martin allegedly led troopers on a high speed chase after they attempted to stop him for a traffic violation. Martin subsequently crashed his vehicle and fled on foot.

Martin was also wanted in Gwinnett County for an incident that occurred in Dacula. On May 13, Martin was a passenger in a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Gwinnett County Police stopped the vehicle and Martin reportedly got into the driver's seat and drove away, initiating a high speed chase.

Martin, authorities said, drove at speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour, nearly striking a police cruiser and running a red light at the intersection of Hamilton Mill Parkway and Braselton Highway. Gwinnett County Police terminated the pursuit to ensure the safety of the public and obtained four warrants against Martin.

Martin was taken into custody without incident after deputies with the Fugitive Unit conducted surveillance at various locations Martin was known to frequent.

He is currently being held in the Gwinnett County jail without bond.
