Driver of Vehicle That Struck Home Reportedly Had Consumed Half a Bottle of Wine

Dacula man told police he was trying to change stations on his radio when he lost control of his vehicle.

The driver of a vehicle that struck a home on Vista Creek Drive in the Hamilton Mill subdivision of Dacula on Dec. 15Β allegedly blamed the accident on a momentary distraction.

According to the Gwinnett County Police report, Steven Govedich, 52, of Dacula, said he was in the process of changing the station on his radio when he lost control of his vehicle. While speaking with Govedich, the GCPD officer noticed an odor of alcoholic beverage and asked Govedich if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages that evening. Govedich reportedly admitted having half a bottle of wine.

β€œThe smell of an alcoholic beverage and the fact that Govedich lost control of his vehicle, drove it over a curb, through a yard, across a driveway and struck a house led me to believe that Govedich was driving under the influence of alcohol,” the officer wrote in the arrest report.
