Buford Man to Police: 'I Like To Fight Cops'

The suspect faces charges of terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer after injuring a Gwinnett Police officer, and making threats.

A Buford man was jailed on several charges after cursing and threatening Gwinnett County police officers, and injuring one, during a recent arrest, according to police records.

On Monday (May 13) about 4:16 a.m., Gwinnett Police responded to a "person drunk" call at a Buford Dam Road address, according to the incident report. Police then reported seeing a man running down the middle of Buford Dam Road and "screaming."

Police said the man, identified as Quincy Jaques Cantrell of a Shoal Creek Road address, would fall to the ground and get back up, screaming, "Help me, help me."

When the officer identified himself, the suspect responded, "Get the ---- away from me," and began running again.

Police followed the man again until he sat down, at which time the officer noted varied mood swings from the suspect, and that Cantrell began to dry heave. The suspect attempted to walk, but fell to the ground a second time.

When another responding officer placed his hand on the suspect's shoulder, Cantrell became irate and began cursing the officer, advanced toward the officers, and attempted to grab an officer's duty belt. Police then executed an arm-bar takedown on Cantrell and handcuffed him.

During the takedown and the arrest procedure, Cantrell kicked an officer, and later grabbed an officer's arms -- "scratching and clawing" the officer and causing "visible bodily injury and bleeding," the report said.

Also, the suspect made such statements to officers as "You're all going to die" and "I like to fight cops." He also spat on emergency medical officers when they arrived at the scene.

The suspect was charged with obstructing an officer, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct.
