Alert Resident Escapes Large Buford House Fire

Fire caused major damage to two-story home on Haddon Hall Drive.

A Buford-area homeowner was alerted by a popping sound to escape injury from a fire Wednesday afternoon.

He found smoke and fire coming from living area, grabbed the family pet  and both made it out uninjured from the house fire in the 3500 block of Haddon Hall Drive. The fire occurred shortly after 12 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Gwinnett fire spokesman Lt. Colin Rhoden said in an email media alert that the fire caused heavy damage to the two-story home. Three adult residents are displaced by the fire.

HOUSE FIRE AT 3500 BLOCK OF HADDON HALL DRIVE, BUFORD

Gwinnett County Firefighters were called out to a house fire incident at the above location.  Caller to the 911 dispatch center was the resident who was at home at the start of the fire.

 

The initial information showed that the resident was alerted to the fire by when a popping noise was heard and fire and smoke was seen inside of the of the living area. The resident was able to exit the home with the family pet, both uninjured prior to firefighter arrival to the scene. Crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the upper level and roof of the large wood framed 2-story home.

 

Firefighters started an aggressive attack on the blaze to attempt to bring it under control. Wind conditions and the size and construction of the home caused the heavy fire conditions to grow. Firefighters exited the house and used the heavy water streams from the ladder truck and engines to combat the fire from outside.  The bulk of the fire was brought under control by the heavy streams. Fire crews returned inside the house to search for hot spots and to extinguish any hidden fire.

 

The fire cause heavy damage to the house and most of the roof materials. Three adult residents will be displaced and will not require the assistance of The American Red Cross. No injuries were reported. A Gwinnett County Fire Investigator was called to the scene for cause determination. Further information will be released when available.
