Health Department Closes in Anticipation of Inclement Weather

Due to the forecasted inclement weather, all Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale County Health Department offices and clinics will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 11 and 12.

Offices and clinic hours on Thursday and Friday (February 13 and 14) will be determined as events unfold. Updated information will be available on the Health Department’s website and social media outlets - Facebook (GNRHD) and Twitter (@GNRHealth).

There will be two periods of likely winter precipitation this week - the first early Tuesday morning, and the second event late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. These weather events, particularly the second one, have the potential to have serious impact on the Atlanta Metro Area. Roads are likely to become very hazardous, and there is a possibility for significant amounts of ice in the second round of storms. This has the potential to knock out power to large areas as tree limbs come down on power lines.

“We urge everyone to exercise safety when it comes to driving. In addition, plan ahead for the possibility of power loss by having flashlights, batteries, blankets, ready-to-eat food, and other emergency preparedness items at home BEFORE the storms hit,” says Mark Reiswig, Health Department Director of Emergency Preparedness. “Plan ahead for things such as prescription refills, etc. Consider how you might help people you know that have special needs or mobility issues.”
