Buford, Lanier Named to Washington Post's List of Most Challenging Schools

Buford-area high schools have been named to a list of institutions that challenge their students to excel.

Buford and Lanier were ranked among 1,900 schools that made the America's Most Challenging High Schools list published by The Washington Post.

Lanier was 381st on the list, while Buford was 690th. (see the Gwinnett list below)

Only 9 percent of the roughly 22,000 public high schools earned placement on the 2014 list.

In all, 20 county schools were named to the list.

Gwinnett School of Math, Science & Tech in Lawrenceville was the county’s and state’s highest ranked school at No. 17.

The index formula used for the rankings measures public and private high schools’ ability to challenge their students. A school’s ranking is determined by dividing the number of college-level tests given by a school to all its students by the number of graduates for that year.
