Buford Man to Police at 9:40 AM: 'I Had a Few'

The suspect also had pills in his pocket, according to Gwinnett Police.

A Buford man was charged with DUI, hit and run and driving with a suspended/revoked license recently after a morning incident in which he rear-ended another vehicle, then left the scene, police said.

Patrick D. Winn of a West Shadburn Avenue address was charged after the June 8 incident at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Tuggle Greer Road, according to the Gwinnett Police report.

He reportedly told the driver that he collided with that he had had "Ambien and a few drinks" and asked her not to call police. When officers apprehended him later about 9:40 a.m., they noticed an odor of alcohol from Winn. When officers asked him if he had been drinking, Winn responded, "I had a few."

After police administered sobriety tests to Winn, they searched him and found seven white "bar" shaped pills and four round peach colored pills in his pocket. He told police that he had prescriptions for the medication but that it was at home.

Tests showed that Winn had a blood alcohol level as high as 0.188.

The driver that Winn collided with told police that he told her at the scene that he is "trying to fight alcohol problems." When she called 911, Winn drove away from the scene "because he would be in trouble," according to the police report.

This information was obtained from Gwinnett Police. It does not indicate a conviction. For more information, email buford@patch.com.
