Buford Athletic Community Suffers Another Tragic Loss

A seventh-grade student died after collapsing at a ball game Saturday night.

The Buford community is again mourning the loss of a young athlete.

Jeremy Nelson, a 12-year-old seventh-grade student, collapsed during a Jan. 5 basketball game at the Suwanee Sports Academy and later died, according to a report in the Gwinnett Daily Post.

In October 2012, the Buford community lost standout football player Devin Durden after he succumbed to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. In September 2012, 16-year-old Adam Smith died three days after collapsing during a workout at Buford High School.

In yet another tragedy for the Buford sports community, 30-year-old Buford High School coach Ryan Daniel died in January 2012 during a basketball game with fellow faculty members.

Details regarding funeral arrangements for Nelson will be posted as soon as they are available.
