Drunk Driver Sentenced to 16 Years in APD Officer's Death - Midtown Patch

Tears were flowing during an emotional day in Fulton County Superior Court on Friday as Stone Mountain’s Chasity Nicole Jones admitted she was driving under the influence of alcohol last January when she hit and killed Atlanta Police Senior Officer Gail Thomas of Austell.

Because of such, Jones was sentenced to the maximum of 16 years in prison.

Man Driving on Wrong Side of the Road Nearly Hits Cop - Cartersville Patch

A local man accused of nearly striking an unmarked police car while driving on the wrong side of the road allegedly tried to hand over cash instead of his ID during a subsequent traffic stop.

The officer Friday about 3 p.m. spotted the grey Saturn that Charles Jeffery Gayton, 33, of Lewis Drive in Cartersville, was driving on Carson Loop off Cass-White Road near Interstate 75, according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office incident report.

Former President Helps With Hardware Store Employees Fundraiser - Tucker Patch

Last week's Greater Good Barbecue which benefited the employees of Handy Ace Hardware who lost their jobs when a sudden fire destroyed the entire building and all its merchandise got some unexpected help from a former president.

"Someone else came in and just handed me an envelope, said 'good luck' and then left," event manager Tracy Wrench said. It turned out to be a signed photograph of former president Jimmy Carter with a note from him wishing everyone success with the fund-raising effort.
