Gwinnett Library's Summer Reading Program Begins in Buford

Program kicks off at Buford Library at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8.

Gwinnett County Public Library kicks off its annual summer reading program this week. And, special events are coming to a library near you.

The kick-off this week includes events where children learn how ordinary objects into instruments, theatrical fun with audience help and music from a band called "Marshmallow Avenue."

Following the kick-off events, the summer reading program will begin in earnest. All of the programs are free, and families can check out the library's calendar for a list.

Children -- and teens -- are invited to participate. Parents can register their children online. Prizes will be awarded to everyone who reads any form of a book (while supplies last).

The state's "Path2College 529 Plan" program is once again partnering with Gwinnett County Public Library, and will award one child with a $5,529 college savings contribution.
