Free Children's Book Reading: Hunka Chunka Monkey
On Thursday, January 24th, Sam E. Bromley, the author of Hunka Chunka Monkey, will pay a visit to The Goddard School of Buford.
This is a free event open to the public. He will be doing 30 minute performances at 10:00am, 10:30am, and 4pm. Parents will be able to purchase his book in the lobby from 3:30-6:30 this same day.
The book follows Hunka Chunka Monkey from a lazy tree monkey who loves "chocolate chip cookies with chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream dipped in double fudge dipping sauce” to an active monkey who makes friends with Hunka Dunka Donkey. He learns to play basketball with Hunka Dunka Donkey and throughout the process becomes “fit and trim.” The main theme of the book is activity and how learning to be active led Hunka Chunka Monkey to a healthy and happy “fit and trim” life.
Hunka Chunka Monkey and Hunka Dunka Donkey were nicknames that Bromley and his son used to call each other when his son was very young. When Bromley was overseas working in Iraq, the memories of his son as a child came back to him and he started writing what later turned into a book. It only took him an hour and a half to write it but about two years to actually get it published. He said the illustrations alone took seven months but that he was very happy with the results from illustrator Kid Cardona.
This event is free and open to the public. The book reading will take place at The Goddard School of Buford located at 4000 South Bogan Road, just down the road from Harmony Elementary School.
Thirty minute performances will take place at 10:00am, 10:30am, and 4:00pm. Bromley will also be in the lobby of the school from 3:30-6:30 for anybody who wishes to purchase his book.
