Student's Death Ruled a Suicide

Teen described as "a well-rounded, compassionate young man with a big heart."

A Dacula teen who was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound will be laid to rest on Saturday, March 9.

According to a Gwinnett County Police report, Avery D. Moras, 16, was reported missing by his mother shortly after 11 p.m. on March 3. The mother told police Moras left the residence with a .32 caliber revolver taken from the glovebox in her vehicle.

Police searched the immediate area, but were unable to locate the teen. The police department contacted Moras' cell phone provider and asked them to ping the teen's phone. The results indicated the phone was somewhere in Jefferson, Ga. Local police checked the area, but were unable to locate Moras or the phone.

The following day, Moras' parents had an application downloaded to their son's phone in order to track it. The application showed the phone was on Mauldin Road near Booths Court. The parents went to the location and reportedly found Moras lying in the brush, holding a gun in his right hand. The teen, according to the police report, was dead as a result of a gunshot wound to the head.

Ted Bailey of the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the teen's death has been ruled a suicide.

Moras' funeral is scheduled for Saturday, March 9. According to the obituary posted on the Wages Funeral Service website, Moras "enjoyed being a tenth grade student at Mill Creek High School, video games, working out, music, zombie movies, and 'Family Guy'. He loved being outdoors, skateboarding, biking and, like most 16 year olds, was always on his Iphone. He was a well-rounded, compassionate young man with a big heart. Avery was a wonderful son, brother, grandson and friend."

Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Lawrenceville with Dr. Inman Houston and Rev. Jason Britt officiating.
