Some Macy's Stores Closing, Mall of Georgia Location to Remain Open
Macy's will close five stores.
Several Macy's stores will be closing as part of what the company describes as normal course adjustments to its portfolio. The Buford, Ga. location at the Mall of Georgia will not be affected.
“We remain committed to operating a successful and growing stores business as part of our company’s Omnichannel strategy for serving customers wherever, whenever and however they prefer to shop,” said Karen M. Hoguet, chief financial officer of Macy’s, Inc. in a released statement. “This leads us to open new stores where we see the opportunity to fill gaps in important markets, as well as to make the tough decision to selectively close underperforming stores that no longer meet our performance requirements or where leases are not being renewed.”
The Macy's stores slated for closure are located in Pasedena, Calif.; Honolulu, Hawaiii; Belmont, Mass.; St. Paul, Minn. and Houston, Texas.
After the store closures, Macy's will be left with a portfolio of 798 stores in 45 states.
