Robbers Strike Mall of Georgia Jewelry Store
Thieves escape with several thousand dollars in diamond jewelry.
Two robbers escaped with over $5,000 worth of diamond jewelry during a Sept. 29 incident at the Mall of Georgia.
Police were called to Empyrean Jewelers after a man reportedly snatched a .75-carat diamond solitaire ring and a set of 1-carat diamond solitaire princess cut earrings and ran from the store.
A store employee told police two black males entered the store at approximately 1:20 p.m. and asked to see sets of 2-carat earrings. The employee advised that he did not have any 2-carat sets, but could show them some 1-carat sets. After the employee removed a set of 1-carat princess cut diamond earrings from the display case, the two males asked to see some matching rings. According to the employee, one of the males almost immediately changed his mind and asked to see a round-cut diamond engagement ring. After the employee removed the ring from the display case, one of the males allegedly grabbed the ring and the earrings and both men ran from the store.
The store employee and another man chased the two men into the parking lot. The men discarded a Macy’s shopping bag in the parking lot before escaping in a silver Chevrolet passenger vehicle. The bag was recovered and found to contain five polo shirts and a pair of jeans, all of which were damaged from where the security sensors had been removed.
The suspect who snatched the jewelry was described as a black male, approximately 5-foot-10, weighing 170-180 pounds. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black button down short with a white under shirt, gray pants, a large watch and a gray hat with a reflective sticker on the bill. His top row of teeth, according to one of the witnesses, was gold.
The second suspect was described as a black male, approximately 5-foot-7, 150-160 pounds with a thin build. He was wearing a pastel purple polo, black pants and black shoes.
The store employee was unable to retrieve the surveillance video at the time of the report, but indicated it would be provided to police at a later date.
The total value of the stolen jewelry was estimated to be $5,300.
The case is listed as active.
