Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy Facing DUI Charges After Wreck
Wreck happened at Ga. Highway 81 and Double Springs Road in Walton County.
A Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputy was jailed Wednesday morning after wrecking his vehicle while allegedly driving under the influence.
According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), a Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department vehicle ran off the road at about 1:20 a.m., struck an embankment and overturned several times. In a press release, GSP reported that nobody was around the vehicle when first responders arrived. They later located the driver, a Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputy, at his residence. He had sustained minor injuries. A female passenger was found walking near the crash scene.
The driver, Robert Christopher Matt, 27, of Bethlehem, was jailed on charges of driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, failing to maintain lane and open container. He was taken to the Walton County Jail.
The passenger, a 27-year-old woman from Lawrenceville, was taken by ambulance to Gwinnett Medical for treatment of injuries.
